Ontario Fire Code Updates - Now in Effect

Ontario Regulation 87/25 introduces updates to the Ontario Fire Code that took effect January 1, 2026. These amendments improve alignment with the National Fire Code of Canada and introduce Ontario-specific clarifications and technical updates that directly affect building owners and operators.

While many requirements may appear familiar, enforcement expectations, documentation requirements, and inspection and testing obligations have been clarified and expanded.

Municipal fire departments may issue penalties without prosecution.
